Prepositional Phrases (in terms of / with regard to / with respect to …)

İngilizce’de “in terms of”, “with regard to” veya “with respect to” gibi ifadeleri sıkça duyarız. Özellikle akademik yazılarda, iş İngilizcesinde ve resmi konuşmalarda bu kalıplar oldukça yaygındır.
Ama bu ifadelerin tam olarak ne anlama geldiğini ve nasıl kullanılacağını bilmezsek cümlelerimiz yapay veya yanlış olabilir. Bu yazıda, bu üç önemli Prepositional Phrase’i sade bir dille açıklayacağız.
Prepositional Phrase Nedir?
Önce temelden başlayalım.
Prepositional Phrase, bir preposition (edat) ve onun tamamlayıcısından oluşur.
Örnek:
in the morning
at school
on the table
Bu yapılar, cümlenin anlamına zaman, yer, neden, konu veya ilişki ekler.
İleri seviye İngilizce’de ise bu kalıplar soyut anlamlar kazanmaya başlar — örneğin:
in terms of success (başarı açısından)
with regard to this issue (bu konuyla ilgili olarak)
